How to get highest band in IELTS Speaking Module

What you really need to know and do when you have IELTS speaking test ?

Majority of students worry about IELTS Speaking Module. As in this section you have to display your potential in everyday English and if you can discuss on any general topic and further if you can be good at two way discussion, answering questions.

Before your speaking test

Keep yourself relaxed by making sure you have your Passport/ID with you and reach before the test.

While giving test

A practice to be present minded and relaxed while giving speaking test. Being present minded can help you analyze questions and plan answers well, of course it becomes easy for you to answer them as easy as a piece of cake. It is natural when you are normal with anybody while talking, you feel more confident but when you are stressed you do not do well. Examiners are always equipped with facilities to help you focus and perform the most when giving test. In case you are not happy or you have any complain , normally conversation between you and examiner is recorded and if any noise outside the room gets recorded, however if you still have any complain, you can make them before you leave.

To score better, you need to produce good Speaking skills, as examiner will be assessing your skills firstly, fluency, this is called continuity in your speaking without thinking you speak continuously and not giving examiner chance to note that you are thinking. Fluency shows you speak English naturally.

Secondly, linking your sentences, you have to make logical connections in your sentences before you deliver them, not having logical connections, your speech does not smooth and confuses examiner what exactly you want to say. So always use conjunctions like for addition use and, as well as, more over etc for contrast use, however, by contrast, conversely etc.

Thirdly, good vocabulary makes your speech more attractive and meaningful, the better your vocabulary is, the more meaningful your speech is. Always use wide range of vocabulary and make sure to use them on the right place and right time. You should not use difficult words if you don't know exactly what they mean.

Fourthly, making good use of structures and grammar. What you want to speak you should have command to speak in different ways with help of grammar which means you should have good understanding of whether words have family like noun, verb, adjective or adverb and either you want to use adjective or adverb family. And further complex sentences can increase your band score.

Enhance your IELTS score in IELTS Listening Test

Majority of people who are weak in IELTS listening skills make variety of shortcuts to get good band which I am not in favor, all you need to do is practice and work hard as it cannot be replaced. Still, you can study hints to clear your concepts to help you get good band in IELTS listening module.

As soon as IELTS listening starts, you have 2.5 minute introduction you should look at all sections and see what each section is about, get main idea, look at illustration, maps, diagrams etc. You can continue until you hear "now we shall begin."

Start getting general idea of what the topic is about, where questions are, what type questions are there, what strategies you will use to answer them. This process is called prediction which makes your mind active to find answers. Normally you can't pay attention if English is not your first language as same time you read instructions and questions listen, assess and write answers. there are chances you would miss answers either because don't follow conversation or you forget while writing it or be busy with one answer and miss the coming answer.

A lot of attention is required to manage your skills to perform better in listening by assessing what you need to do exactly rather than wasting time looking at wrong information, not focusing on what you exactly need to.

These are words that help the listener follow what speaker is trying to say and work out what they are about to say. To recognize signpost words and anticipate what the speaker would say are importing skills for the listener listening module.
Signpost indicates direction where to go, for example when you drive you see road signs saying turning left, right or giving you information where the read leads to. Signpost words conjunctions used for result, contrast, comparison, illustration/example, reasons and addition.

Signpost words follow answers like "furthermore" is adding information and if question what are three facilities offered, two facilities heard and to find third one this signpost word is indicating the it carries the third facility.

By analyzing above question we understand that it is asking to give solution. and it has two questions What are some of the negative effects of television?

How to put general ideas in paragraphs

General idea is called main idea of a paragraph in other words i should say it carries main idea of a paragraph or tells reader what this paragraph is about. When it is put in a sentence that is called topic sentence which is placed in a paragraph as a first sentence.

How to write supporting information in a paragraph

Sentences which have supporting information are called supporting sentences. They back up the topic sentence of a paragraph. The more supporting sentences you have with example, evidence, reason, result, reference etc the more effective your paragraph is going to be.

How to get main idea of each paragraph in IELTS reading test

Reading is the most difficult part in IELTS exam for many of students who don't have reading habits, as a result they get confused. IELTS Reading module checks your ability to answer 40 questions in 60 minutes from three passages which contain around 2700 words. Almost Students read every passage in detail without reading questions which is wrong, you only need to find answers for your 40 questions. It is better to practice finding answers quickly rather reading the whole passage.

It becomes challenging for them to get main idea of a paragraph. It is not difficult once you know exactly how paragraphs are structured. Every paragraph has general idea and supporting information. General idea means main idea or point that a writer discusses in an individual paragraph which in a sentence shape is called TOPIC SENTENCE. Supporting information means points that you need to support topic sentence. They could be examples, explanation, references, evidence etc.

Understanding where topic sentence lies in a paragraph helps you get general idea of a paragraphwhich means to come to know what is the paragraph about. Topic sentence can come at the beginning of a paragraph, as a second sentence or last. If you still don't find it, you would need to read whole paragraph in detail.

Specific information means supporting detail in a paragraph which explains topic sentence in detail. Questions like true false, short answer and multiple-choice check your ability whether you understand the explanation of paragraphs. Questions like matching headings check your ability to get main idea of a paragraph.

Skimming and Scanning are methods to help you get main idea of a paragraph or supporting information. You simply move your eyes quickly to find information you need not necessarily reading every word of a paragraph.

Read paragraphs in a way to get main idea and supporting information. Knowing the structure of a paragraph will help you perform better in finding your answers. Practice makes perfect and hope this post helps you in your exam.
